Johnathon Henninger
Photography
I’m a photographer who makes still and video content. With a foundation in photojournalism I bring a calm, respectful presence to every assignment. Helping people feel comfortable and engaged—whether capturing impactful moments, a polished headshots, or a stylized environmental portraits is my forte.
My career began in 2002 as a full-time newspaper photographer at The Herald in New Britain, Connecticut, followed by years photographing for publications across Connecticut and beyond. In 2010, after an assignment with a nonprofit in Bulgaria, I shifted to full-time freelance, drawn toward projects rooted in service, education, and impact. I've served a wide range of organizations and move through varried environments easily.
My imagery has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists and the New England Associated Press News Executives Association. I’ve also contributed to two HBO documentaries—The Cheshire Murders and The Newburgh Sting, the latter receiving a Peabody Award.
Today, I partner primarily with educational institutions, nonprofits, and corporate clients. I’m comfortable under tight timelines, responsive to feedback, and focused on delivering visuals that feel natural, look professional, and clearly support each client’s goals.

Johnathon is a hidden gem. He takes the extra mile going above and beyond on services. The clients and those being photographed love his warm spirit. I wouldn't think twice about working with him again.

Johnathon Henninger as a freelance event photographer for more than 20 years across three different institutions, and he has consistently proven himself to be an exceptional professional. Johnathon is deeply hardworking, reliable, and thoughtful in his approach, with a rare ability to thoroughly capture not just the moments of an event, but its energy, relationships, and purpose. His background in journalism is evident in his work—his images feel authentic, emotionally grounded, and story-driven rather than staged or superficial. He has an instinct for being in the right place at the right time, documenting events with sensitivity and integrity while remaining unobtrusive. Time and again, his photographs have helped us tell honest, compelling stories that resonate well beyond the day itself.

Johnathon Henniger covered an event for our company, Momenta Creative, in New York City this year. His positive attitude and honest approach made him very easy to work with over the course of the assignment. He was personable and very supportive to the client, which is always important to us. We would definitely consider working with him again.
